Coffee Fights Signs of Aging
Coffee Can Fight the Signs of Aging
Are you a coffee addict? Raise your hand. I am a coffee addict. Jim teases me that he can’t talk to me before I’ve had my first cup of coffee (though in truth, I am up before he is, and have usually finished my first cup before he gets up). There are lots of health benefits to coffee, but one of the top benefits is coffee helps to fight the signs of aging.
There’s no question that drinking an amazing cup of coffee is something that improves your entire day. While you know things like using the best coffee beans and adding in the proper amount of sugar and cream matter, what you may not realize is that the cup of coffee you look forward to so much may actually help you look younger. Not only is this true, but there is also science that backs up this claim.
What Is it in Coffee that Fights the Signs of Aging?
Just like coffee addicts like me need that cup of rich, flavorful coffee each morning to jump start our day, it is not really the coffee that does that. It’s the caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant, and it is that very thing in coffee that fights the signs of aging. Caffeine targets your central nervous system and kicks it into high gear. This is why most of us grab that cup of coffee in the morning to start our day.
Coffee is also full of antioxidants, melanoidins, and chlorogenic acids, which are perceptible in your bloodstream after you have had a cup of coffee. Coffee also contains kahweol and cafestol, which are diterpenes that will negatively impact cholesterol levels. While this is true, the presence of the diterpenes is impacted during the brewing method used and usually eliminated. If you are making your own coffee and plan to use a French press, pour-over apparatus, or drip brewer, this isn’t a concern.
Coffee takes away eye puffiness
Coffee is great for fighting one of the top signs of aging – eye puffiness. While it is well-known that caffeine has a significant effect on your energy levels, and it can help improve performance and alertness, it has certain physical effects, too.
A person appears older when they look tired. Coffee fights that tiredness, and you can appear younger instantly. Not only will coffee help you appear more awake, but it contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce cases of eye puffiness internally. While this is an instant anti-aging effect, it is also temporary.
Applying Coffee Topically
Coffee can have a huge impact on your physical appearance from inside, as mentioned above, but it can also offer benefits when it is applied topically. You can reuse your coffee grounds to apply to your skin, which will reduce inflammation, clear away dead skin cells, reduce the look of cellulite, and exfoliate the skin.
You can create your own DIY coffee skin scrub and mix it with other ingredients to create something that is nourishing to your skin. An added bonus is that this is a budget-friendly and eco-friendly way to begin following an anti-aging skincare routine.
Boost in Metabolism
Many people associate weight gain with looking older. The caffeine that is found in coffee helps fight aging through suppressing appetite and may be an invaluable tool when you are trying to lose weight. With that in mind, be careful with what you add to your coffee. Check out some of the syrups and flavors offered by Coffee or Bust to find options that won’t impact the metabolism-boosting effect that coffee can have.
How Much Should You Drink?
While coffee is a miracle tool when it comes to anti-aging, you can always reach a point where you have consumed too much. Over-consumption can eventually diminish your skin’s elasticity because of dehydration and have the opposite effect on your anti-aging routine. The best way to offset possible dehydration caused by coffee consumption is by drinking a glass of water before having another. Also, make sure to avoid the inflammation-causing additives such as sweeteners and sugar.
The key takeaway here is that coffee is a great beverage that provides you with the fuel that is needed to make it through the day. However, if you want to benefit from the anti-aging benefits it offers, make sure you don’t go overboard.
