Can You Find Inspiration in Beachcombing & Broken Seashells?
Inspiration from water, sun & beach
I’m a warm weather, sun-loving, water & beach lover. I love being on the water on a boat, beachcombing on the water’s edge for beach treasure, or playing in the water. It’s often been said that there is salt water running through my veins! This love of the water plays a huge part in where my husband & I choose to travel ~ usually by boat, and to an island destination.
The story has often been told that at six months old my parents put me on a boat, and I have never come off. As a little girl, my fondest memories are of my dad teaching me to sail our little Sunfish on Broad Bay in Virginia Beach. Now I am certainly not the greatest sailor, but there is something that resonates so deeply in my soul when I am sailing, surrounded by sea and sky.
Beachcombing & shelling can yield hidden treasures…
Beachcombing and shelling are natural by-products of being a water & beach lover and boater. There is something special about discovering what seems to you to be a deserted beach, and exploring it. Beachcombing can yield amazing treasures if you seek with eyes to see the extraordinary hidden in the ordinary.
Broken shells…
Beachcombing and shelling transport you back your childhood, where everything you discovered was a treasure ~ even the broken shells. Those broken shells hold a unique key. They are the shells which have been through the tides, tumbling over and over. They remind me of what we go through in life. We are battle scarred, been through highs and lows, had good times and bad times….but we’ve survived, just like the broken shell.
Embrace You!
Take a moment today to just let loose of all of the expectations, all of the cares and concerns that life puts on us, and embrace the freedom of childishness. Dance like nobody’s watching you; twirl in the rain; run through a field and pick daisies, slip into a swing and swing high – high as the heavens! Fly a kite, out on the beach!
Looking at life through the eyes of a child, when everything is a new experience, brings a new appreciation for life, and those in our lives ~ it’s a chance to slow down, and embrace each moment and to live life fully and freely.
Lord, help me to remain childlike in my appreciation for life. Please slow me down…that I may always see the extraordinary in the ordinary. That I may always wonder at the shell in the sand, the dawn of a new day….the beauty of a flower…the blessings of a friend….the love a child.
In my brokenness, may I never take life so seriously that I forget to laugh along the way.
May I always take the time to watch a kite dance in the sky…to sing…to pick daisies…to love…to take risks…to believe in my dreams.

I love this! I love the beach too but don’t get there that often. I can’t wait to read more of your blog too.
Thanks my friend! The beach is definitely my happy place, as is sailing!
