Here you can see the sea cows and learn about how they live and breed. The manatees migrate to the plant during the summer months in search of heat from the power plant’s warm water. They may be seen in large numbers swimming around the plant’s discharge canal and nearby power generation units. The Manatee Viewing Center is open to the public at no cost, but it is only accessible when the manatees are present, generally from November through March.
Butterfly gardens, the Florida Native Wildflower Trail, and various birds are also exhibited in a tidal walkway. At the midway point of the Manatee Viewing Center’s habitat loop trail is a 50-foot viewing tower, where you may get an aerial view of the plant’s discharge canal or catch a glimpse of Tampa Bay.
